Why dont allergy pills work at nite?

Dont bother to make suggestions on different medications.. Im 5 months pregnant, and there is not much that Im approved to take!

My allergy meds work fine during the day.. my nose is a lil runny now and then.. but its all tolerable.

It seems tho that the very minute I lay down and fall asleep Im right back awake because Im congested and cant breathe! Im up half the nite because of it, and Im not getting the sleep I need! The A/C is on, and I also have an air filter in the bedroom.. but it makes no difference. Its only getting worse each nite as I get further into allergy season.

I need something that WORKS! I cant go on a few hours of interrupted sleep each nite, and sleeping during the day isnt possible!
I have been sleeping elevated.. been doing it for a while now actually!

For the past 7 years I have had seasonal allergies: watery ich eyes, sneezing, the works. I would always use Flonase, but this year I was perscribed Nasonex (you know, the commercial with the bee). Anyways, I started using it at the beginning of this allergy season but soon discovered that I wasnt having my normal symptoms anymore, so I stopped taking the nasal spray.
But for the past month I have developed a constant mucus cough. I always get coughing fits when I lie down to sleep or when I laugh, and I start to wheeze. This happens about 3-4 times a day and I’m not sure if it’s my allergies, a cold, or something worse. I feel fine so I dont think it’s a cold. At first Tylonol Cold helped, but not so much anymore. Coffee seems to make it stop now. But I’m not experiencing the normal watery eyes and sneezing. It’s only coughing, which lasts about half and hour sometimes. Should I be worried or is this just my allergies developing furthur?
When I say I wheeze, I mean as I’m breathing at normal pase, you can hear the mucus rattling. Not like Im short of breath or anything. So I dont quite think it’s asthma. But how would I know for sure, right? =) Let me know what you all think!

I teach 10th grade english, there is one boy in my class who is always, always, always sick. He comes in literally coughing, sneezing and looking worn out everyday. It is a distracting my class when he coughs like bronchial coughs and gets up every 5 minutes to get a tissue. I understand its flu season and allergy season but is there anything I can do? His sickness always causes him to sleep and snore during my class and sometimes miss it too. He’s in 10th grade so Im not sure about calling the parents. Have you ever had this before?

I’ve never had a history of asthma or respiratory problems, but for 4 months, since I started working here, I’ve felt like I can’t catch my breath when I’m at work, and it carries long into the evening, when I leave work. I’m being treated with Q-Var and Albuterol, but the rescue inhaler doesn’t seem to be very effective.
When an attack starts, it can last for days. I’m not gasping for air, but I have to take deep, forced breaths, it’s very exhausting. It doesn’t disrupt my sleep, I just have a slight wheeze at night.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

How do I disinfect my bedding and mattress of allergens?

Apparently, I’ve picked up some allergens from a construction sight near my work. I’ve been getting particles on my clothes for months, and of course I leave my clothes on my bed, meaning that all the allergens have been living in my sheets and mattress now.

I’ve broken out in hives and always begin to feel short of breath when I crawl into bed for the night. After consulting with my doctor, we figured out what the cause of all this was. I’ve of course washed my sheets thoroughly and have even take in my comforter for a dry cleaning, but I don’t think it’s enough since going to bed still makes me feel congested, though the hives are gone, thankfully!

What I’m looking for is advice on a good disinfectant and any other kind of sterilizing procedures I can do to make sure my bed is free of allergens and that I can finally get a restful night of sleep without walking up to cough and sneeze. This is my bed! Thanks in advance for any advice.
