Tabbitatt,
There are numerous organic products that Kill dust mites. My allergist sold me one that contains tea in it and it seem to do a great job. The best method is to really keep a clean house. Here are some things my allergist stated to do

1) Keep the house dry, at less than 50 percent humidity. Set the thermostat below 70 degrees. Dust mites increase in humid, warm conditions.

2) Wash bedding and washable rugs often, so dust mites do not collect in them. Include sheets, mattress covers, comforters, pillows and pillowcases.

3) Add air purifiers with HEPA filters, to help remove dust particles.

4) Seal box springs, pillows and the mattresses in zippered dust- and allergen-proof covers.

5) Eliminate the dust and grime from ceiling fans and vacuum any dust that may fall to the floor.

6) Vacuum “what-nots," louvered doors and pleated lampshades. Use a brush attachment.

7) Reduce or eliminate fabric wall hangings.

8)Use plastic shades instead of drapes, blinds or curtains on windows. Or put dryer-safe curtains and drapes into the dryer for several minutes to remove dust. Use the air setting. Use a clean, new paint brush to dust mini blinds.

9) Buy machine-washable stuffed toys.

10) Vacuum upholstered furniture often, or replace the upholstered furniture with plastic or wooden furniture. Get a professional to regularly clean large area rugs.

11) Use a vacuum attachment or long-handled, dampened dust mop to clean under furniture, in corners and in closets.

12) Replace the carpet with a wooden or tile floor.

hope this helps

I've heard that using lavender oil has an effect on dust mites and vacuuming your mattress and pillows each time you change the bedding, which should be a minimum of once a week especially for someone with allergies, can help.

Also, purchase a product like Endust which will help you eliminate dust in your room and check every day for dust deposits and if you have to dust every day.

I use a vacuum with a high power vacuum that has a hepa filter. I'm allergic to cats/dogs and dust and I have 4 cats, 2 dogs and live in a construction zone currently and this helps!
