If I take Zyrtec now when I haven’t taken it in a while, will it clear up my allergies today?

e.estlinz asked:

I live in Arizona and have severe allergies (just had them for the first time this season). My allergies were really bad in May and June, fine in July, but today for some reason they really flared up. All day today, my nose has been either totally stuffed up or running like water, I’ve been sneezing a lot, and coughing a bit. Will the Zyrtec (which I have left over from a prescription) work if I take it today, or should I take something else?
My main question is: Will it work TODAY? I just want something that will work right away. Some allergy medications need time before they become effective (two or three days of taking it).
