How long does it take for an allergy to occur after eating a food?

allergy
GS88 asked:

Ok, I have allergies to peppers each time I get an allergic reaction it takes longer and longer for the allergy to occur last time it was nearly 10 hours after eating the food this time it was 17 hours after eating the food. Is this even possible? I thought reactions occured at max 4-6 hours after eating the food.
im 18 years old btw. Im reading lots of articles and I think I might have something called type 2 hypersensitivity.

depends on your body and how bad the allergies are

    wow that’s strange.
I have allergies and my eyes go bigger than elephant!
if i eat ‘hairy’ type of fruits, like peaches etc…

it takes one hour. after one hour you won’t recognize me.
i have to rush and put eye drops so i avoid some fruits.
i don’t know if it’s the spray they use, or anything but even some apples give me this, but i still don’t know why.

  • Some allergies can take just the touch of the food to mucus membranes to start a reaction in seconds.

well Most food algerys can even start as soon as you put it near your mouth.Anything is Possible maybe your body is now getting used to eating them since you have had them before.

  • i have a LOT of allergies. i am allergic to nuts very bad and i ate a chocolate with a nut in that a didn’t notice, 10 seconds after digesting gave me a bad feeling in my throat and a few more seconds later i was violently sick and couldn’t breathe very well and needed to call an ambulance 10 seconds later. i think its how bad the allergy, the quicker it starts to take effect.

  • There’s no one answer. It depends on too many factors such as what your allergies are and how severe they are to certain types of food, insect stings, and the like. If you are really allergic to bee stings or fire ant bites (goes for snake bites too), you have about 15 minutes to an hour, maybe less. It depends on where you got stung or bitten (close to an artery or not).Keep a steroid handy as you may not have time to recover. Peanuts can cause systems in less than than a few minutes after eating them. Peppers generally take 6 to 12 hours for systems to show, but, again, it depends on how much you consumed and how allergic you are to them. I’d stay away from the peppers.

You don’t give your age, so it is possible, if you are young, to grow out of certain allergies as you get older. Be careful!

  • Allergies are generally weird. One minute you could be allergic to something and the next minute the allergy disappears!

Food allergies are especially weird. I used to get sick every time I ate crab – but now I’m not anymore. Kiwi also makes my lips & tongue feel fuzzy, but this is a recent development for me.

The thing is that you can ‘outgrow’ food allergies. Other allergies can last your whole life, although they may be less severe and more severe at different points in your life.

Sounds like your body is learning how to cope with your reaction to peppers and/or you’re becoming less sensitive!

  • It will really depend on the strength of the allergy.
It will also dpend upon the condition of your body at the time the allergy occurs.
It could depend on what other items you consumed prior to, during, or shortly after eating the allergy food. Chemicals in food react differently with each other and different combinations.
It could be the amount of the allegy food you consumed.
It could be instantaneous or hours

Sometimes people grow out of allergies.

  • 4 hours. That’s normal. Here’s an idea; how about stop eating those foods that you’re allergic to?! lol
