Scratch test ontheback. It’s littleplastic needle likethings thattheyprick thebaby’s back with. Theallergens areontheHtip andneed topenetrate skin.
Itwillbepainful,butitmaysave yourbaby’s life,soyouhavetodoit.
Youwillgettohold thebaby inyourarms whiletheydoit(iftheydon’t doitthatway,find another allergist).
Beprepared tocomfort him/herandmaybe havea square ofchocolate ofotherfavorite snack tohelpcalmthemdown.
Thebaby willhavetobeshirtless for20 minutes aftertheyprick him/herandtherecanbenotouching ofthearea until thetest iscomplete.
I gave mybaby a lollipop anda sticker andhegottorunaround theoffice flirting withthenurses.
Ifthereareanyhorrible reactions,thestaff isfully prepared todeal withit. More sothatanyotherdoctor’s office.Thelikelihood ofa severe reaction isslim. Thescratch test willreveal severe allergies withonlysomeswelling.
During thetest youmayfeel badthatyoudidittoyourbaby,butafteryougettheresults,you’ll know thatitwasthebest thing,andshouldnothavebeenavoided foranyreason.
