I’m already taking Zyrtec and getting allergy shots twice a week. My allergies are almost off the charts!
I use allergy covers on pillows, wash sheets in hot water once a week, wear a dust mask when I stir up the dust, wear sunglasses outdoors to avoid pollen in the eyes, etc. What to do for the scratchy throat, though?

I am weighing pros and cons. I realize immunotherapy isn’t 100% effective. I’m also aware going that route will involve a long term commitment to getting allergy shots on (at a minimum) a weekly basis. What are the drawbacks of being on allergy meds for years? Won’t steroid nasal sprays cause some funky side effects?
I should add that since being on these allergy meds, I have been enjoying the best spring of my entire life. I smelled Easter lilies for the first time this month, and have finally learned what cut grass smells like. It’s also the first spring I’ve not had a sinus infection. The meds do work for me.

As soon as I started trying to get preggo my dr. said to not take my regular allergy meds. This is my first spring w/o the help of allergy meds and I’m miserable. I’ve had swollen glands, sneezing and my nose runs constantly, fatigue, sore throat,etc. So, I’m wondering if the side effects of NOT using allergy medicine are worse than the effects of taking them while trying to get preggo since my body seems to be focusing all of it’s effort on fighting my allergies w/no help from meds. Supposedly Benedryl is safe, but it’s not offered in non-drowsy, so unless I want to be drowsy all day – that’s a useless option.
